Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

How often should my organization host a wellness event?

Wellness should not just be a one time event. Ongoing wellness programs help employees adjust behaviors and make healthy lifestyle changes. To recognize the true cost savings of offering wellness programs, a company must evaluate specific claim data year-over-year.

How many nurses will you send to a wellness clinic?

This depends on many variables, including the types of screenings being offered, expected participation, and length of the program. Your Maxim Account Executive will work with you to ensure you are aware of how many staff members will be needed to successfully execute the event.

What is required of my organization if I am hosting a wellness event (i.e. tables, chairs, electricity)?

We provide a turn-key program, including the nursing staff, necessary paperwork, vaccine and supplies, etc. We bring everything with us the day of the clinic and remove it all, including medical waste, upon completion of the clinic. We do require the site to provide adequate space, tables, chairs, waste baskets, and electrical outlets (not applicable for all screenings).

HEALTH SCREENINGS

Is fasting required for any of the screenings?

Patients do not have to fast for total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol testing. However, triglycerides and glucose levels can increase markedly after eating. For accurate triglyceride and glucose screening results, patients should fast for 12 hours before blood is drawn for testing. Because LDL is calculated using a formula that includes the triglyceride result, for accurate LDL results, fasting is required. There is no need to fast for Blood Pressure, Body Fat, or Dermaview screenings.

How long does it take to screen one person, on average?

This depends on the type of screening being administered and equipment being used. Some screenings can be completed in one minute, while others might take 10. Combination programs in which we offer multiple screenings on the same day will also impact how long it will take for individuals to complete the entire process. Your Maxim Account Executive will be able to provide the specifics based on the types of screenings you're interested in.

Will my insurance cover the cost of the screening?

Generally, insurance does not cover screening costs. Maxim is a participating provider with several health plans, allowing us to file claims for flu shots administered at the workplace. We are unable to transmit claims data for reimbursement for wellness screenings. We encourage you to check with your particular health plan to see if any allowance might exist for these types of screenings.

Is doing a finger-stick less accurate than a venous blood draw?

The equipment utilized by Maxim Health Systems demonstrates a high degree of accuracy via the finger-stick method versus a venous blood sample.

How does the accuracy for Cholestech results compare to blood draw results?

The Cholestech LDX System has been certified by the Cholesterol Reference Method Laboratory Network (CRMLN). This certification validates that the system meets the gold standards for accuracy and reproducibility developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the measurement of total and HDL cholesterol, consistent with the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) analytic goals. Unlike with uncertified systems, health care professionals can be confident that the Cholestech LDX delivers quality lab accurate results that our customers can trust.

REPORTING

In general, how long does it take to receive the results from a health screening?

Individual participant results for finger-stick screenings are given within minutes of the actual test being performed. PSA and any venous blood draw results can take up to one week to reach the participant.

What does the aggregate reporting entail?

We can provide custom reports based on each client's unique needs. Most often, reporting is done on a de-identified basis, providing the actual results of the screenings in a list format, with no identifiers linking an actual result to an individual. We also provide aggregate reporting in an Excel format, with or without graphs.
